New: Flanders Embryo Auction heads to Spain

Hot on the heels of its embryo auction in the Emirates, Flanders Foal Auction has already launched its new collection online. For the first time, the team is heading to Oliva, Spain. On Saturday evening, 21 February, 25 embryos - due to be born soon - will go under the hammer. “The first will be born just a few weeks after the auction, the last in July,” say Gerald Lenaerts and Luk Van Puymbroeck.

The Flanders Embryo Auctions have previously taken place in the Emirates, Ireland, Slovakia, Norway, the United States, Italy and Belgium. The Mediterranean Equestrian Tour in Spain is the new venue. “It’s a show with an enormous number of horses and riders at various levels. The VIP area has the same luxurious look as in Abu Dhabi and the atmosphere is fantastic. Everything is perfectly organized. Many riders are already familiar with the concept of auctioning embryos and the entire process afterwards, from rearing to training,” Lenaerts and Van Puymbroeck explain.

To impress the professional audience, a strong collection has been assembled. The 25 embryos are sired by 14 different stallions. United Touch S leads the way with four embryos, followed by Comme il Faut, Heartbreaker and Ermitage Kalone (three each), and Chacco Blue and Emerald (two each).

Ten out of sport mares
“We have ten embryos out of mares that competed at 1.45m up to 1.70m level!” A highlight is the Darry Lou embryo out of the 1.70m Grand Prix mare HH Azur (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve), now retired but still the highest-earning mare in the world. With McLain Ward, she won team silver at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. This embryo was produced via ET rather than ICSI, as is the case for several embryos in this collection.

Bred from 1.60m Grand Prix mares are the Comme Il Faut out of Dizzy Lizzy (also the dam of Roelof Bril’s 1.60m Grand Prix horse Iberico), the Ermitage Kalone out of Atlanta 541 (half-sister to two other 1.60m Grand Prix horses) with Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, and the Cornet Obolensky out of L’Espoir d’Opaline van de Caatshoeve (from the line of Jus de Pomme) with Stijn Van Gorp. Four embryos are bred out of 1.50m Grand Prix mares. Six granddams performed at 1.50m to 1.65m level, including top horses Dubai du Cedre and Gotha FRH.

“Gotha is the granddam of the Diarado x Colestus embryo. Very interesting, she has won everything: team gold at the European Championships in Madrid, team bronze at the World Equestrian Games in Herning and numerous Grands Prix. First with Ludger Beerbaum and later with Henrik von Eckermann,” says Gerald Lenaerts.

The Flanders team is also enthusiastic about the full brother or sister to the pinto 1.65m Grand Prix horse Ping Pong van de Lentamel (Emerald x Toulon), who is successful with Gerrit Nieberg. “A crack of a horse. The best pinto ever! And this line has already produced several international showjumping horses.”

Nieuw: Flanders Embryo Auction naar Spanje

Flanders Foal Auction heeft de embryo veiling in de Emiraten nog maar net achter de rug of de nieuwe collectie staat al online. Voor het eerst trekt het team naar Oliva, Spanje. Op zaterdagavond 21 februari worden 25 embryo’s geveild, die al snel geboren worden. “De eerste al een paar weken na de veiling, de laatste in juli”, laten Gerald Lenaerts en Luk Van Puymbroeck weten.

De Flanders Embryo Auctions vonden al plaats in de Emiraten, Ierland, Slowakije, Noorwegen, Amerika, Italië en België. De Mediterranean Equestrian Tour in Spanje is de nieuwe locatie. “Een concours met gigantisch veel paarden en ruiters op diverse niveaus. De VIP heeft dezelfde luxueuze uitstraling als in Abu Dhabi en de sfeer is er geweldig. Alles is er goed voor elkaar. Veel ruiters zullen ook al bekend zijn met het concept van embryo’s veilen en het traject daarna van opfok tot en met opleiding”, aldus Lenaerts en Van Puymbroeck.

Om indruk te maken op het professionele publiek is er een sterke collectie neergezet. De 25 embryo’s stammen af van 14 verschillende hengsten. Hoofdaanvoerder is United Touch S (4), gevolgd door Comme il Faut, Heartbreaker en Ermitage Kalone (3), en Chacco Blue en Emerald (2).
 

Tien uit sportmerries
“We hebben tien embryo’s uit moeders die op 1.45m tot en met 1.70m niveau hebben gesprongen!” Highlight is de Darry Lou uit de 1.70m Grand Prix merrie HH Azur (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve), gepensioneerd maar nog altijd de meeste verdienende merrie ter wereld. Ze won met McLain Ward teamzilver op de Olympische Spelen in Rio de Janeiro. Deze embryo is niet via ICSI, maar ET tot stand gekomen, zoals meer embryo’s in deze collectie.

Gefokt uit 1.60m Grand Prix-merries zijn de Comme Il Faut uit Dizzy Lizzy (ook moeder van Roelof Bril’s 1.60m Grand Prix-paard Iberico), de Ermitage Kalone uit Atlanta 541 (halfzus van nog twee 1.60m GP paarden) met Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum, en de Cornet Obolensky uit L’Espoir d’Opaline van de Caatshoeve (uit de stam van Jus de Pomme) met Stijn Van Gorp. Vier embryo’s komen uit een 1.50m Grand Prix merrie. Zes grootmoeders presteerden op 1.50m tot en met 1.65m niveau, waaronder de toppaarden Dubai du Cedre en Gotha FRH.

“Gotha is de grootmoeder van het embryo van Diarado x Colestus. Heel interessant, ze heeft alles gewonnen. Teamgoud op het EK in Madrid, teambrons op de WEG in Herning, heel veel Grand Prix’s. Eerst met Ludger Beerbaum en daarna met Henrik Von Eckermann”, vertelt Gerald Lenaerts. Enthousiast is het Flanders team ook over de volle broer of zus van het bonte 1.65m Grand Prix paard Ping Pong van de Lentamel (Emerald x Toulon), die succesvol is met Gerrit Nieberg. “Een crack van een paard. De beste bonte ooit! En deze lijn gaf al meer goede springpaarden.”
