Flanders embryo collection promises fireworks again in Abu Dhabi
The start of the new auction year takes Flanders Foal Auction to the Emirates. For the ninth time, an auction will be held on Friday, 23 January featuring foals to be born this year. This Flanders Embryo Auction will take place during the prestigious Al Shira’aa Horse Show in Abu Dhabi.
The Flanders Embryo Auction has grown into a well-established name among Arab buyers. It required courage, perseverance and patience from organizers Luk Van Puymbroeck and Gerald Lenaerts, as auctioning embryos in the Middle East - where buyers traditionally prefer ridden horses - was far from obvious. The first embryo auction was held in 2017, after which knowledge and interest increased year after year. Last year’s exceptionally strong collection was even rewarded with a sell-out and an average price of €27,222.
This year, 22 embryos have once again been selected, sired by 16 different stallions. United Touch S leads the line-up with four offspring, followed by Chacco Blue (2x) and the Appaloosa showjumping stallion J-Nius V.V. Z (2x). Following the success of the Appaloosa foal C-Bra van het Bokt, ‘Flanders’ has selected two very interesting J-Nius V.V. Z embryos, bred out of the 1.60m Grand Prix mare Isaura ter Putte (half-sister to Elvis Ter Putte) and out of the full sister of Emerald van ’t Ruytershof.
Eleven Grand Prix dams
“We have eleven embryos out of sport mares competing at 1.45m up to 1.65m level. Seven have a granddam that jumped at the highest level. Eleven dams and twenty granddams already gave 1.45m to 1.65m Grand Prix horses. Going back one more generation, we see that six great-granddams competed at top level and that 18 great-granddams gave a Grand Prix horse. This shows just how strong the damlines are,” explains Gerald Lenaerts.
‘Flanders’ has been offered embryos that were previously not for sale. “Thanks to ICSI techniques, it is becoming increasingly easier and more financially accessible to buy something out of exceptional sport mares. Previously, that was completely out of reach.”
Premieres
A real premiere is the Emerald out of Toveks Mary Lou (Montendro I), who won more than €1.7 million with Henrik von Eckermann. She won the World Cup Final in Omaha, Grand Prix’s, Nations Cups and medals at championships. Also appearing on the market for the first time is an embryo whose full sister is Bisquetta (Bisquet Balou C), the top horse of Laura Kraut and third in the ranking of highest-earning mares in 2025.
The Balou du Reventon out of Coriana van Klapscheut (1.60m Grand Prix winner with Eric Lamaze) is also very interesting. Full brother Badarco PS, purchased by Paul Schockemöhle at the Flanders Foal Auction for €50,000, was recently the only four-year-old offered at the PSI Auction and realized €180,000.
The United Touch S out of the same dam as Impress van ’t Kattenheye, highly successful with Thibeau Spits, is also sure to attract many fans, as are the Comme il Faut out of the 1.60m Grand Prix mare Kitona de Muze, the Darry Lou out of the 1.55m Grand Prix mare Ut Wodka, the Aganix du Seigneur out of the half-sister to top horse Caracole de la Roque and the Chacco Blue out of the famous broodmare Gatoucha van ’t Roosakker.

Flanders embryo collectie belooft weer vuurwerk in Abu Dhabi
De start van het nieuwe veilingjaar begint voor Flanders Foal Auction met een trip naar de Emiraten. Voor de negende keer wordt op vrijdag 23 januari een veiling gehouden met veulens die dit jaar geboren worden. Deze Flanders Embryo Auction vindt plaats tijdens de prestigieuze Al Shira’aa Horse Show in Abu Dhabi.
De Flanders Embryo Auction is uitgegroeid tot een begrip onder de Arabieren. Het vergde lef, doorzettingsvermogen en geduld van organisatoren Luk Van Puymbroeck en Gerald Lenaerts, want embryo’s veilen in het Midden-Oosten waar ze het liefst ervaren paarden kopen was nog niet het meest voor de hand liggend. De eerste embryoveiling was in 2017, waarna elk jaar de kennis en interesse groeide. De zeer sterke collectie van vorig jaar werd zelfs beloond met een uitverkoop en een gemiddelde prijs van €27,222.
Dit jaar zijn er opnieuw 22 embryo’s geselecteerd, afstammend van 16 verschillende vaders. United Touch S is hoofdaanvoerder met vier nakomelingen, gevolgd door Chacco Blue (2x) en de Appaloosa springhengst J-Nius V.V. Z (2x). Naar aanleiding van het succes met Appaloosa veulen C-Bra van het Bokt, heeft ‘Flanders’ twee zeer interessante J-Nius V.V. Z geselecteerd, gefokt uit de 1.60m Grand Prix merrie Isaura ter Putte (halfzus van Elvis Ter Putte) en uit de volle zus van Emerald van ’t Ruytershof.
Elf Grand Prix moeders
“We hebben elf embryo’s uit sportmerries op 1.45m tot en met 1.65m niveau. Zeven hebben een grootmoeder die op hoog niveau heeft gesprongen. Elf moeders en twintig grootmoeders gaven al 1.45m tot en met 1.65m Grand Prix paarden. Gaan we nog een generatie verder, dan zien we dat zes overgrootmoeders op hoog niveau presteerden en dat 18 overgrootmoeders een Grand Prix paard brachten. Dat geeft aan hoe sterk de stammen zijn”, vertelt Gerald Lenaerts.
‘Flanders’ heeft embryo’s aangeboden gekregen die voorheen niet te koop waren. “Dankzij de ICSI-technieken wordt het steeds makkelijker en financieel toegankelijker om iets kopen uit bijzondere sportmerries. Dat was eerder totaal onbereikbaar.”
Primeurs
Een primeur is de Emerald uit Toveks Mary Lou (Montendro I), die met Henrik Von Eckermann meer dan 1,7 miljoen euro won. Ze won de wereldbekerfinale in Omaha, Grote Prijzen, Nations Cups en medailles op kampioenschappen. Ook voor het eerst op de markt is een embryo met als volle zus Bisquetta (Bisquet Balou C), het toppaard van Laura Kraut en derde in de ranking van meest verdienende merries in 2025.
De Balou du Reventon uit Coriana van Klapscheut (1.60m Grand Prix winnares met Eric Lamaze) is ook zeer interessant. Volle broer Badarco PS, door Paul Schockemöhle aangekocht op de Flanders Foal Auction voor 50.000 euro, werd recent als enige vierjarige geveild op de PSI Auction en bracht 180.000 euro op.
De United Touch S uit dezelfde moeder als Impress van ’t Kattenheye, zeer succesvol met Thibeau Spits, zal ook veel fans hebben, maar ook de Comme il Faut uit de 1.60m Grand Prix-merrie Kitona de Muze, de Darry Lou uit 1.55m Grand Prix merrie Ut Wodka, de Aganix du Seigneur uit de halfzus van toppaard Caracole de la Roque en de Chacco Blue uit topfokmerrie Gatoucha van ’t Roosakker.

De 1.55m Grand Prix mare Ut Wodka (Cassini I), here with Jos Lansink, will be represented by an embryo by Darry Lou. Ut Wodka is a sister to three 1.60m GP horses and closely related to Uricas vd Kattevennen (1.65m GP).
