Flanders Foal Auction launches 2nd collection following record-breaking edition
The foal season of Flanders Foal Auction kicked off with a spectacular start and continues on Saturday, July 4, at Sentower Park with its second foal auction. Luk Van Puymbroeck and Gerald Lenaerts are looking forward to the event.
“It will be difficult to match the results of the previous edition, but auctions are always unpredictable. The foals are certainly no less impressive. They have fantastic conformation and come from exceptionally strong damlines.”
With an average price of €39,400 per foal on June 13, Flanders Foal Auction achieved a new record. Joppe AR Z (J-Nius V.V. Z) sold for €386,000, just below the record price of €402,000 paid last year for C-Bra Van Het Bokt.
“Once again, we have an Appaloosa-coloured foal that stands out not only because of its colour but also because of its quality. The dam of Jaxx CT Z jumped at 1.40m level in Israel and is a half-sister to showjumping horses at 1.60m, 1.45m and 1.35m level.”
35 jumping foals
During the international youth weekend at Sentower Park in Oudsbergen, 35 foals will go under the hammer, sired by 23 different stallions. United Touch S and Ermitage Kalone lead the line-up with four foals each, followed by Comme il Faut and Chacco Blue with three offspring, while Cornet Obolensky is represented by two foals.
“This is a very strong collection across the board. This time we have somewhat more foals out of younger mares, but all are exceptionally well bred. I counted no fewer than thirty granddams and thirty great-granddams that have already produced one or more 1.50m–1.60m Grand Prix horses,” says Gerald Lenaerts.
As always, the collection includes several standout foals out of proven sport mares. Carthamena vd Nachtegaal (Carthago Z) is out of the 1.55m Grand Prix mare Coromena. Her granddam Dimena competed at 1.60m level with Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum and is the granddam of eight 1.60m–1.65m Grand Prix horses.
The athletic colt Cato Star QC Z (Catoki x Darco) is out of the 1.50m level showjumping mare Idole 111, the full sister of Winningmood (1.60m GP) and the dam of Mr. Idol S (1.60m GP).
Colt Dalton van ’t Koningsbos (Cornet Obolensky) is another eye-catcher. His granddam Roxanne de Regor is already competing at 1.50m level at the age of nine with Seppe Wouters and is bred out of the highly influential broodmare Centa de Muze.
Filly Exquis Key Z (Emerald x Bentley vd Heffinck) is a half-sister to two 1.60m Grand Prix horses and one at 1.50m level, and is a granddaughter of Babbe van ’t Roosakker (1.60m GP).
Filly Chica van ’t Pardassenhof Z (Chacco Blue x Taran de la Pomme) is out of a full sister to the stallion El Torreo de Muze (1.60m GP). Her granddam Funky Music (1.60m GP) also produced Bretling du Paradis Z (1.60m GP).

Flanders Foal Auction lanceert tweede collectie na recordeditie
Het veulenseizoen van Flanders Foal Auction startte met vuurwerk en vervolgt op zaterdag 4 juli op Sentower Park met de tweede veulenveiling. Luk Van Puymbroeck en Gerald Lenaerts kijken er naar uit. “Het zal moeilijk zijn om de afgelopen editie te evenaren, maar een veiling laat zich niet voorspellen. De veulens zijn er niet minder om. De modellen zijn fantastisch en ze komen uit zeer sterke stammen.”
De gemiddelde prijs van 39.400 euro per veulen op 13 juni zette Flanders Foal Auction een nieuw record neer. Joppe AR Z (J-Nius V.V. Z) ging voor 386.000 euro, net onder het recordbedrag van 402.000 euro dat vorig jaar betaald werd voor C-Bra Van Het Bokt. “We hebben opnieuw een Appaloosa die niet alleen vanwege de kleur opvalt, maar ook kwalitatief een heel goed veulen is. De moeder van deze Jaxx CT Z sprong 1.40m in Israël en is een halfzus van een 1.60m, 1.45m en 1.35m springpaard.”
35 springveulens
Tijdens het internationaal jeugdweekend op Sentower Park in Oudsbergen worden 35 veulens geveild, afstammend van 23 verschillende hengsten. United Touch S en Ermitage Kalone zijn hoofdaanvoerders met vier veulens, gevolgd door Comme il Faut en Chacco Blue met elk drie en Cornet Obolensky met twee nakomelingen.
“Het is in de breedte een zeer sterke collectie. Dit keer hebben we wat meer veulens uit jongere merries, maar allen zeer sterk gefokt. Ik telde maar liefst dertig grootmoeders en dertig overgrootmoeders die al één of meerdere 1.50-1.60m Grand Prix paarden hebben gegeven”, vertelt Gerald Lenaerts.
Zoals gewend zitten er opvallende veulens bij uit sportmerries, zoals Carthamena vd Nachtegaal (Carthago Z) uit de 1.55m Grand Prix-merrie Coromena. Haar grootmoeder Dimena sprong 1.60m parcoursen met Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum en is grootmoeder van acht 1.60-1.65m Grand Prix paarden. Het atletische hengstveulen Cato Star QC Z (Catoki x Darco) komt uit de 1.50m springmerrie Idole 111, de volle zus van Winningmood (1.60m GP) en moeder van Mr. Idol S (1.60m GP).
