Flanders Foal Auction closes foal season with 20,070 euros average
No Chacco Blue, Emerald or Heartbreaker out of a famous sport pedigree, but a daughter of Comilfo Plus Z x Contendro I who stole the show at the very last Flanders Foal Auction of the year. Champagne LVP Z thrilled both the bidders online and the audience at Peelbergen Equestrian Centre with her superb conformation and powerful canter and came into Dutch ownership on site for 36,000 euros.
29 of the 33 showjumping foals changed hands on Saturday evening the 16th of September for an average price of 20,070 euros and with that, Flanders Foal Auction maintained the high level for the whole season. “Recently, we often heard that the prices at auctions are dropping, so at the end of the season the average price could have dropped a bit, but certainly did not. When you can sell a collection for these prices, we can’t exactly say there is a crisis or the market is going down”, Gerald Lenaerts and Luk Van Puymbroeck state.
On Saturday, Peelbergen Equestrian Centre was packed with riders, investors, stallion owners and breeders awaiting their chances. They received a lot of competition online. In fact, of the first 10 foals, 7 were sold via the internet. In total, there were 14 purchases by the public, 12 online and 3 over the phone. “The support from online bidders is always great at our auctions, but now there was even a record of new registrations on the auction day itself. There was really a lot of interest...”
Luk Van Puymbroeck could take extra delight in the auction night, as the two most expensive fillies came from his stable. The insider knows that he is a fan of the 14-year-old Zangersheide stallion Comilfo Plus (by Comme il Faut), which explains the choice of stallion for his mare Cosa Nostra (Contendro I x Carthago Z), which resulted in the beautiful Champagne LVP. “I used to own the dam of Comilfo Plus together with another breeder; the stallion himself was then still very young and very promising. Champagne LVP is out of the same mare as Greg Broderick’s 8-year-old Cariati d’Elsendam – a talent they are extremely happy with. I did not expect Champagne becoming the most expensive in the auction, but seeing her moving in the field I did think to myself: you are very special.”
Special wild card
This week’s wild card Chacco Diamond (Chacco Blue x Kashmir van Schuttershof) remains in Belgian hands for 34,000 euros. The beautiful, large-framed filly is closely related to Heroine de Muze and Levis de Muze and is a true highlight genetically.
Polish customers bought three very special fillies on the spot, including the full sister of the 1.60m Grand Prix stallion Halifax van het Kluizebos. This Halida Z (Heartbreaker x Fetiche du Pas) was sold for 32,000 euros. For 30,000 euros, Tommy Girl W (Balou du Reventon x Kashmir van Schuttershof) from the Roosakker family was sold to the Netherlands. The Emirates, Brazil, America, Canada, Ireland, Great-Britain, Germany, Denmark and Hungary also made their move.
Il Borro
By the way, the ‘Flanders’ auction season does not end until Saturday 18 November, where the team will once again present very interestingly bred embryos. Location is the breathtaking Il Borro of famous Italian Salvatore Ferragamo and his family near Arezzo. Very much recommended for anyone wanting to soak up Tuscan culture, combined with an auction evening full of entertainment and excellent accommodation.

Geen Chacco Blue, Emerald of Heartbreaker uit een bekende sportstam, maar een dochter van Comilfo Plus Z x Contendro I die de show stal op de allerlaatste Flanders Foal Auction van het jaar. Champagne LVP Z bracht de bieders online en het publiek op Peelbergen Equestrian Centre in vervoering met haar schitterende model en krachtige galop en viel terplekke in Nederlandse handen voor 36.000 euro.
Negenentwintig van de 33 springveulens wisselden zaterdagavond 16 september van eigenaar voor een gemiddelde prijs van 20.070 euro en daarmee heeft Flanders Foal Auction het hoge niveau van het hele jaar vastgehouden. “We horen op het moment wel heel vaak dat de prijzen op veilingen minder worden en zo aan het einde van het seizoen had het maar zo iets kunnen zakken, maar verre van dat. Als je een collectie kan verkopen voor deze prijzen, kun je niet bepaald zeggen dat het crisis is of dat het allemaal wat minder wordt”, vertellen Gerald Lenaerts en Luk Van Puymbroeck.
Peelbergen stroomde zaterdag vol met ruiters, investeerders, hengstenopfokkers en fokkers, die hun kansen afwachten. Ze kregen online veel tegengas. Van de eerste tien veulens werden er zelfs zeven via internet verkocht. In totaal waren er 14 aankopen door het publiek, 12 online en drie over de telefoon. “De support van online bieders is altijd groot bij onze veilingen, maar nu kwam er zelfs een record aan nieuwe registraties op de veilingdag zelf bij. Er was echt veel interesse…”
Luk Van Puymbroeck mocht zich extra verheugen over de veilingavond, want de twee duurste merrieveulens komen uit zijn stal. De insider weet dat hij fan is van de 14-jarige Zangersheide hengst Comilfo Plus (Comme il Faut) en dat verklaart dan ook de hengstenkeuze voor zijn Cosa Nostra (Contendro I x Carthago Z), wat resulteerde in de prachtige Champagne LVP. “Ik heb de moeder van Comilfo Plus nog gehad met een fokker, de hengst zelf was toen nog jong en zeer beloftevol. Champagne LVP komt uit dezelfde merrie als de achtjarige Cariati d’Elsendam van Greg Broderick, waar ze enorm blij mee zijn. Ik had er niet op gerekend dat Champagne de duurste zou worden in de veiling, maar als ik haar in de wei zag lopen dacht ik al wel bij mezelf: Jij bent wel heel apart.”
Bijzondere wildcard
De deze week ingebrachte wild card Chacco Diamond (Chacco Blue x Kashmir Van Schuttershof) blijft in Belgische handen voor 34.000 euro. Het mooie, grootramige merrieveulen is nauw verwant aan Heroine de Muze en Levis de Muze en is genetisch gezien een echte highlight te noemen.

Het ‘Flanders’ veilingseizoen eindigt overigens pas op zaterdag 18 november, waar het team nog één keer flink uitpakt met zeer interessant gefokte embryo’s. Locatie is het adembenemende Il Borro van de beroemde Italiaan Salvatore Ferragamo en zijn familie in de buurt van Arezzo. Een tip voor eenieder die de Toscaanse cultuur wil opsnuiven, gecombineerd met een veilingavond vol entertainment en een uitstekend verblijf.
