Flanders Foal Auction at full strength heading to Germany
If you want to sell foals as a Belgian auction in Germany, you have to bring your A-game. Flanders Foal Auction has gathered a remarkable group of jumping foals for the auction on Saturday, July 27. “The best collection so far in Germany,” say Luk Van Puymbroeck and Gerald Lenaerts, who will be auctioning for the third time at Holger Hetzel Stables in Goch.
The past two editions during the 'Tiemeyer x Hetzel Young Horse Masters' were already successful, even with a professional and critical audience with extensive knowledge. “You have to come up with something special, as the standard at Holger Hetzel’s auctions is always very high. We dare to say that we have succeeded well.”
Catering to the German audience, the Roosakker family is well represented, but the collection also includes a very good filly by the 13-year-old 1.60m Grand Prix stallion Casallco, Germany’s rising star in breeding. Ercolando VDH (Ermitage Kalone) has a link with Holger Hetzel’s auction. This colt is bred out of the half-sister of Crazy in Love (Cornet Obolensky), who was auctioned for one million euros last year. There are four foals by Ermitage Kalone in total. Chacco Blue remains the leader with five foals.
There is plenty of diversity, as the 29 auction foals descend from 18 different stallions. Seven foals come from dams that have gave sport horses competing at 1.45m to 1.60m level. No less than 26 foals have a granddam that gave a 1.50m, 1.55m or 1.60m Grand Prix horse.
Alongside the well-known damlines, there are also families that have not been auctioned much before. Quamano vd Nachtegaal (Quaprice Bois Margot) comes from the half-sister of world champion and Spruce Meadows GP winner Cumano. A beautiful granddaughter of Utopia van de Donkhoeve, one of Pieter Devos’s first top horses, Belle-Rose van 't Volpenhof (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve) is also coming to Goch.
Also noteworthy is the modern and superb galloping Carasco de Nyze Z (Carthago x Heartbreaker), half-brother of three 1.60m Grand Prix horses, including the recently sold Calvino II de Nyze to 'Iron Dames'. He was ridden by Thibeau Spits and now under the saddle of Janne-Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann.

Flanders Foal Auction op volle sterkte naar Duitsland
Als je als Belgische veiling in Duitsland veulens wil verkopen, dan moet je van goeden huize komen. Flanders Foal Auction heeft een bijzondere groep springveulens bijeengebracht voor de veiling op zaterdag 27 juli. “De beste collectie tot nu toe”, vertellen Luk Van Puymbroeck en Gerald Lenaerts, die voor de derde keer veilen op de stal van Holger Hetzel in Goch.
De afgelopen twee edities tijdens de 'Tiemeyer x Hetzel Young Horse Masters' waren al succesvol, ook al was het een professioneel en kritisch publiek met veel kennis in huis. “Je moet wel met iets aparts komen, de standaard bij Holger Hetzel ligt zelf ook altijd zeer hoog in zijn veilingen. We durven te stellen dat we er goed in geslaagd zijn.”
Inspelend op het Duits publiek is bijvoorbeeld de Roosakker-familie goed vertegenwoordigd, maar is er ook een zeer goed merrieveulen in de collectie opgenomen van de 13-jarige 1.60m Grand Prix-hengst Casallco, Duitslands opkomende ster in de fokkerij. Een link met Holger Hetzel’s veiling heeft bijvoorbeeld Ercolando VDH (Ermitage Kalone), gefokt uit de halfzus van Crazy in Love (Cornet Obolensky), die afgelopen jaar voor één miljoen euro werd afgeslagen. In totaal zijn er vier veulens van Ermitage Kalone. Chacco Blue blijft koploper met vijf veulens.
Diversiteit is er volop, want de 29 veilingveulens stammen af van 18 verschillende hengsten. Zeven veulens komen uit moeders die sportpaarden op 1.45m tot en met 1.60m niveau hebben gegeven. Maar liefst 26 veulens hebben een grootmoeder die een 1.50m, 1.55m of 1.60m Grand Prix paard bracht.
Naast de bekende stammen zijn er ook families waar nog niet veel uit geveild is. Quamano vd Nachtegaal (Quaprice Bois Margot) komt bijvoorbeeld uit de halfzus van wereldkampioen en Spruce Meadows winnaar Cumano. Van Utopia van de Donkhoeve, één van de eerste toppaarden van Pieter Devos, komt een prachtige kleindochter naar Goch, Belle-Rose van ’t Volpenhof (Tangelo van de Zuuthoeve).
Apart is ook de moderne en goed galopperende Carasco de Nyze Z (Carthago x Heartbreaker), halfbroer van drie 1.60m Grand Prix-paarden waaronder de recent aan ‘Iron Dames’ verkochte Calvino II de Nyze, gereden door Thibeau Spits en nu onder het zadel van Janne-Friederike Meyer.

The dam of Ercolando VDH Z (Ermitage Kalone x Conthargos) was auctioned at the Flanders Foal Auction four years ago. She is a half-sister of Crazy in Love, who was auctioned for one million euros by Holger Hetzel in 2023.
