Flanders Foal Auction: Interest in top-quality foals remains strong
The auction season has yet to begin, but the atmosphere is already promising. Luk Van Puymbroeck and Gerald Lenaerts are looking forward to the first Flanders Foal Auction of 2026. “It’s going to be a great auction. Interest in top-quality jumping foals remains strong and once again we have succeeded in finding them,” they explain. The collection is now online. The auction will take place on Saturday, June 13, during the CSI4* event at Sentower Park in Belgium.
The opening of the auction promises to be particularly special, as the eight-year-old Klarissa von Barlo (Kannan x Lux Z) will enter the arena. She is none other than the half-sister of Aachen winner United Touch S (1.70m Grand Prix with Richard Vogel) and Olympic mare Zypria S (1.70m Grand Prix with Willem Greve). Granddam Cantate Touch (1.60m Grand Prix) is a daughter of Classic Touch, who won Olympic gold with Ludger Beerbaum in 1992.
“She is a very special mare with an excellent canter. Power radiates from her. When you see her, you immediately recognize United Touch S in her. She has produced two foals, competed at 1.35m level and then returned to breeding. This is a unique opportunity to acquire something from this exceptional damline,” says Gerald Lenaerts.
The evening continues with the auction of 34 jumping foals. “Fifteen foals are being presented with their biological dams, 17 were bred through ICSI and two through embryo transfer (ET). We do not take this into account during the selection process, but it is wonderful to see foals presented alongside their own mothers. At the same time, we are very pleased with ICSI, because it allows foals to come onto the market that otherwise would not happen,” explain Lenaerts and Van Puymbroeck.
26 different sires
One striking feature of the collection is the diversity of pedigrees. “35 lots, 26 different sires. All of them are stallions that have proven themselves either in sport and/or breeding. We have four foals by United Touch S because his offspring look extremely promising, and four by Comme Il Faut. We sense strong demand for his offspring as well. Riders absolutely love them. They are horses that cooperate and genuinely want to do a good job.”
Eight foals are bred out of sport mares that have competed at 1.45m to 1.70m Grand Prix level. Almost all foals have granddams and great-granddams that have already produced one or more Grand Prix horses.
“We have expanded the black-type pedigrees with several additional generations, provided everything still fits on an A4 page. When a foal has a young dam and granddam, you can clearly see the strength of the damline. That inspires confidence!”
Who will be the top seller?
Predicting the highest-priced foal is difficult. Will it be the son of Emerald out of the 1.70m Grand Prix mare HH Azur (winsome €4.2 million)? Or will the honors go to the foals out of Grand Prix mares Kitona de Muze, Fleur de Kalvarie or Jussica T?
The damlines of Centa de Muze, Qerly Chin, Roosakker, vd Bisschop, H&M Butterfly Flip, Dominator 2000 Z, Candy, Hardrock Z and Quasibelle du Seigneur are also sure to attract plenty of admirers.
Flanders Foal Auction: ‘Interesse in betere veulens blijft’
Het veilingseizoen moet nog beginnen of de stemming zit er al in. Luk Van Puymbroeck en Gerald Lenaerts kijken uit naar de eerste Flanders Foal Auction van 2026. “Het gaat een goede veiling worden. De interesse in betere springveulens blijft en die hebben we weer weten te vinden.” De collectie staat inmiddels online. De veiling is op zaterdag 13 juni tijdens het CSI4* concours op Sentower Park in België.
De opening van de veiling gaat bijzonder zijn, want dan betreedt de achtjarige Klarissa von Barlo (Kannan x Lux Z) de baan. Ze is niemand minder dan de halfzus van Aken-winnaar United Touch S (1.70m GP met Richard Vogel) en de olympische merrie Zypria S (1.70m GP met Willem Greve). Grootmoeder Cantate Touch (1.60m GP) is een dochter van Classic Touch, winnares van olympisch goud met Ludger Beerbaum in 1992.
“Het is een heel aparte merrie met een goede galop. Het vermogen straalt ervan af. Als je haar ziet, zie je United Touch S erin terug. Ze heeft twee veulens gehad, sprong 1.35m en ging daarna terug in de fokkerij. Een unieke kans om iets uit deze stam te kopen!”, vertelt Gerald Lenaerts.
De avond vervolgt met het veilen van 34 springveulens. “Vijftien veulens lopen bij hun biologische moeder, 17 zijn via ICSI gefokt en twee via ET. We houden er in de selectie geen rekening mee, maar het is wel mooi om ze bij hun eigen moeder te zien lopen. Aan de andere kant zijn we ook heel bij met ICSI, want daardoor komen er veulens op de markt die er anders niet zouden zijn”, vertellen Lenaerts en Van Puymbroeck.
26 verschillende vaders
Opvallend is de diversiteit in de afstammingen. “35 lots, 26 verschillende vaders. Allemaal hengsten die zich hebben bewezen in de sport en/of nafok. We hebben er vier van United Touch S omdat zijn nakomelingen zeer goed lijken en vier van Comme Il Faut. We voelen dat er ook veel vraag is naar zijn nafok. De ruiters zijn er gek van, het zijn paarden die meewerken en willen.”
Acht veulens komen uit sportmerries die op 1.45m tot en met 1.70m niveau hebben gesprongen. Bijna alle veulens hebben een grootmoeder en overgrootmoeder die al één of meerdere Grand Prix-paarden heeft gegeven. “We hebben de blacktype pedigrees met nog een paar generaties uitgebreid, mits het past op een A4’tje. Als een veulen een jonge moeder en grootmoeder heeft, kun je toch zien hoe goed die stam van oorsprong is. Dat geeft vertrouwen!”
Prijstopper?
Wie de prijstopper gaat worden, is moeilijk te voorspellen. Gaat het de zoon van Emerald uit de 1.70m Grand Prix merrie HH Azur (winsom 4,2 miljoen euro) zijn? Of zijn het de veulens uit de Grand Prix-merries Kitona de Muze, Fleur de Kalvarie en Jussica T? De merrielijnen van Centa de Muze, Qerly Chin, Roosakker, vd Bisschop, H&M Butterfly Flip, Dominator 2000 Z, Candy, Hardrock Z en Quasibelle du Seigneur zullen ook hun fans weer hebben.
Crown Prince EBS Z (Cornet Obolensky x Casanova) is bred out of a half-sister to four 1.55m–1.60m Grand Prix horses.
Filly Come to Me T40 Z (Comme il Faut) comes out of the full sister of Dominator 2000 Z (1.65m Grand Prix).

Chuck XQ Z (Comme il Faut) decends from the 1.60m Grand Prix mare Kitona de Muze and is a grandson of the 1.60m Grand Prix mare Heroine de Muze.
Emerald du Ciel HH Z (Emerald) is a son of world’s highest-earning showjumping mare, HH Azur (Thunder van de Zuuthoeve).
