Flanders Foal Auction: 100% sales and €78,000 for ¾ brother of Clooney 51
In June, the outlook for the jumping foal market was still uncertain, but after the first Flanders Foal Auction brought in an average price of €25,500, it marked the start of an overwhelming season, which concluded gloriously on Saturday evening, September 14. The fifth Flanders Foal Auction achieved an average price of €24,230, with a top price of €78,000 for the three-quarter brother of the famous Clooney 51, ridden by Martin Fuchs.
"A fitting finale to a remarkable season with very consistent prices. The idea that there might be a dip this year is now completely outdated. Interest in the Flanders foals is immense and comes from all over the world. We are delighted for the breeders, who see their investments and the care for their mares with foals rewarded with excellent prices. This gives them the motivation to continue, allowing us to assemble strong collections for the coming years,” say Luk Van Puymbroeck and Gerald Lenaerts.
Everything sold
The collection at Sentower Park was the largest of the year with 42 jumping foals, and auctioneer Louis De Cleene managed to sell all 42 before the night officially fell. There was a lot of online activity, but in the end, only six were sold via the internet (two to Morocco, three to Ireland and one to Belgium).
Top foal goes to Grand Prix rider
Many of the buyers at the event were regular customers, but riders from Saudi Arabia and Romania also secured foals. A German Grand Prix rider bought three foals for her future, one of which is Black Magic van ’t Gelutt (Cornet Obolensky x Colbert GTI) for €78,000. This stunning colt with his superb canter and one blue eye is known as the three-quarter brother of the Olympic showjumping horse and European Champion, Clooney 51, ridden by Martin Fuchs.
New investments
An Italian investor, who has been active at previous auctions, made multiple purchases once again. Among them was the Appaloosa foal Jailyn vd Holsteinerhoeve Z (J-Nius x Vleut) from the line of top broodmare Ligie, bought for €58,000. Joining the same stables were Beverly Hills VDH Z (Balou du Reventon x Mr. Blue) for €42,000 and Urikas Way (Urico x Cassini I), the full brother of Uricas vd Kattevennen, for €38,000. Two foals were sold for €34,000 each: Happy Goldika DW Z (Heartbreaker x Indorado) and Candy Man van WW Z (Chacco Blue x Toulon).
Paul Schockemöhle also added three more colts to his stables, including Baloueney Boy M (Ermitage Kalone x Balou du Rouet) for €30,000.
Embryo auctions
The combined average price across all five foal auctions in 2024 reached €24,451. Flanders Foal Auction still has an embryo auction planned for this year and will kick off 2025 with an embryo auction at the Al Shira’aa Horse Show in Abu Dhabi on Friday, January 17.

Het was in juni nog onzeker hoe de markt voor springveulens eruit ging zien, maar nadat de eerste Flanders Foal Auction een gemiddelde prijs opleverde van 25.500 euro bleek dat de start van een overweldigend seizoen dat op zaterdagavond 14 september een glansrijk slot kreeg. De vijfde Flanders Foal Auction leverde een gemiddelde op van 24.230 euro en een topprijs van 78.000 euro voor de driekwart broer van de beroemde Clooney 51 van Martin Fuchs.
“Een waardige afsluiter voor een schitterend seizoen met zeer constante prijzen. Het idee dat er misschien wel een dip zou komen dit jaar, is volledig achterhaald. De interesse in de Flanders veulens is enorm en is er vanuit de hele wereld. We zijn blij voor de fokkers die hun investeringen en goede zorgen voor hun merries met veulens beloond zien worden met prachtige prijzen. Dat geeft ze de motivatie om door te gaan, zodat we ook komende jaren sterke collecties kunnen samenstellen”, vertellen Luk Van Puymbroeck en Gerald Lenaerts.
Alles verkocht
De collectie op Sentower Park was met 42 springveulens de grootste van het jaar, maar veilingmeester Louis De Cleene verkocht ze alle 42 nog voordat de nacht officieel inviel. Online was er veel te doen, maar uiteindelijk werden er maar zes via internet verkocht (twee naar Marokko, drie naar Ierland en één naar België).
Veilingtopper naar GP amazone
Ter plekke waren het veel vaste klanten die de veulens vastlegden, maar ook ruiters uit Saudi-Arabië en Roemenië. Een Duitse Grand Prix-amazone legde drie veulens vast voor haar toekomst en één daarvan is Black Magic van ’t Gelutt (Cornet Obolensky x Colbert GTI) voor 78.000 euro. Dit fantastisch gemodelleerde hengstveulen met zijn geweldige galop en één blauwe oog staat bekend als de driekwartbroer van het olympisch springpaard en EK-winnaar Clooney 51 met Martin Fuchs.
Nieuwe investeringen
Een Italiaanse investeerder liet zoals afgelopen veilingen opnieuw van zich horen en kocht meerdere veulens. De appaloosa Jailyn vd Holsteinerhoeve Z (J-Nius x Vleut) uit de lijn van de topfokmerrie Ligie hoort daarbij met 58.000 euro. Stalgenoten worden Beverly Hills VDH Z (Balou du Reventon x Mr. Blue) met 42.000 euro en Uricas vd Kattevennen’s volle broer Urikas Way (Urico x Cassini I) met 38.000 euro. Twee veulens gingen voor 34.000 euro: Happy Goldika DW Z (Heartbreaker x Indorado) en Candy Man van WW Z (Chacco Blue x Toulon).
Ook Paul Schockemöhle voegde nog eens drie hengstveulens aan zijn stal toe, waaronder Baloueney Boy M (Ermitage Kalone x Balou du Rouet) voor 30.000 euro.
Embryoveilingen
Alle vijf veulenveilingen bij elkaar opgeteld is de totaal gemiddelde prijs van 2024 uitgekomen op 24.451 euro. Flanders Foal Auction heeft voor dit jaar nog een embryoveiling in de planning en start 2025 met een embryoveiling op de Al Shira’aa Horse Show in Abu Dhabi op vrijdag 17 januari.
