Flanders Foal Auction: “The foal always comes first”
After several embryo auctions in Belgium and abroad, at last the first Flanders Foal Auction is coming up when live foals will be shown in the ring. They are the nicest auctions, with a lot of audience and a vast support, watching the proceedings online with the finger on the button. On Saturday-night 17 June thirty foals will be auction at Sentower Park in Opglabbeek.
The collection can be seen here and the first reactions have been very positive. Flanders Foal Auction is known for offering foals with proven pedigrees, but this should never go at the expense of a good model and an athletic canter. “It has happened that we did not take top-class bred foals because they could not charm us”, Gerald Lenaerts explains, who, together with his partner Sigrid Gielen and Luk Van Puymbroeck organizes the auction.
“The foal always comes first. It has to look a top foal and you find plenty in this collection. Beautiful and solid foals with a lot of potency.”
Main suppliers
Chacco Blue and Emerald van ’t Ruytershof are main suppliers with 5 foals each, followed by Balou du Reventon (4), Comme il Faut (4) and Conthargos (3).
Every foal is closely related to international sport horses. For example, there is a Balou du Reventon daughter on offer, whose dam is a half-sister of Emerald and a full sister of Nixon van ’t Meulenhof and a Chacco Blue x Cornet Obolensky who is a grand-daughter of the celebrated broodmare Gatoucha van ’t Roosakker (1.50m GP). Another very interesting one is the filly by Dominator Z out of the line of Cold as Ice Z (1.60m GP) and a very handsome Conthargos out of the family of Opaline des Pins (so also closely related to Dutch champion O’Bailey van het Brouwershof under Maikel van der Vleuten).
Out of the valuable broodmare Carrera de Muze (1.50m GP) comes a grandson of Chacco Blue x Cornet Obolensky who is for sale. There is also a filly by Chacco Blue out of Calgot Pleasure (1.55m GP), who in turn is bred out of WEG champion Liscalgot, ridden by Dermot Lennon. Closing the auction will be a handsome Comme il Faut son with Oak Grove’s Heartfelt (1.60m GP) as grandam.

Flanders Foal Auction: “Het veulen staat op de eerste plaats”
Na meerdere embryoveilingen in binnen- en buitenland staat dan eindelijk de eerste Flanders Foal Auction van het jaar voor de deur met echte veulens in de baan. Het zijn de mooiste veilingen met veel publiek en een grote achterban die online meekijkt en aan de biedknop zit. Op zaterdagavond 17 juni worden op Sentower Park in Opglabbeek dertig veulens afgeslagen.
De collectie staat online en de eerste reacties zijn zeer positief. Flanders Foal Auction staat erom bekend veulens te veilen met bewezen pedigrees, maar het mag niet ten koste gaan van een goed model en een atletische galop. “Het is zelfs al voorgekomen dat we top gefokte veulens hebben laten staan omdat we er zelf net niet gek van waren”, vertelt Gerald Lenaerts, die de veilingen samen met z’n partner Sigrid Gielen en Luk Van Puymbroeck organiseert.
“Het veulen staat op de eerste plaats. Dat moet erop lijken en dat zie je ook wel terug in deze collectie. Mooie en goede veulens met veel potentie.”
Hoofdleveranciers
Chacco Blue en Emerald van ’t Ruytershof zijn met elk 5 veulens hoofdleverancier, gevolgd door Balou du Reventon (4), Comme il Faut (4) en Conthargos (3).
Elk veulen is nauw verwant aan internationale sportpaarden. Zo wordt er een Balou du Reventon-dochter geveild, waarvan de moeder een halfzus is van Emerald en volle zus van Nixon van ’t Meulenhof. Een Chacco Blue x Cornet Obolensky is een kleindochter van de bekende fokmerrie Gatoucha van ’t Roosakker (1.50m GP). Ook heel interessant: een stoer Dominator Z merrieveulen uit de lijn van Cold as Ice Z (1.60m GP) en een zeer mooie Conthargos uit de lijn van Opaline des Pins (dus ook nauw verwant aan Nederlands kampioen O’Bailey van het Brouwershof onder Maikel van der Vleuten).
Van de subliem fokkende Carrera de Muze (1.50m GP) wordt een kleinzoon van Chacco Blue x Cornet Obolensky geveild. Er zit ook een merrieveulen van Chacco Blue bij uit Calgot Pleasure (1.55m GP), die op haar beurt gefokt is uit wereldkampioen Liscalgot van Dermot Lennon. Afsluiter van de veiling is een prachtige Comme il Faut-zoon met Oak Grove’s Heartfelt (1.60m GP) als grootmoeder.
